Day to day

Tasks, snags and RFIs

Two lists that look similar and do different jobs: what somebody needs to do, and what somebody needs answered.

Tasks and snags

  1. Open Tasks and add an item.
  2. Assign it and set a status.
  3. Open items show as a badge on the sidebar, so the count is visible without opening the tab.
This is not the schedule of defects. Snagging at practical completion and the contractual schedule at the end of the rectification period are different documents with different consequences. The schedule of defects lives in its own tab because a certificate depends on it.

RFIs

A request for information is a question with a date on it. The date is the point: late information is a relevant event, and a register of what was asked and when it was answered is the evidence for that.

  1. Add the RFI with what is being asked and who it went to.
  2. Record the date raised and the date required by.
  3. Record the answer and the date it arrived.
Worth knowingIf a delay claim later rests on late information, this register is the first thing anyone will ask for, and reconstructing it from email six months later is not the same thing.

Where they show up

Both carry a count badge on the sidebar and appear on the project list, so an open item on a job you have not touched for a fortnight is still visible.

Not your whole portfolio. One live job, one certificate. If it does not save you time the first time you use it, walk away and take your data with you.
