Building it

  1. Open Programme.
  2. Add activities with a start date and a duration.
  3. Add milestones for the dates that carry consequences: possession, sectional completion dates, practical completion.
Worth knowingKeep it to the level you would show at a monthly meeting. If you need critical path analysis and resource levelling, use planning software and record the outcome here.

Against the contract dates

The chart runs against the contract start and the completion date from your project settings, so slippage is visible against the date that matters rather than against the last version of the programme.

An extension of time moves the completion date. Once an award is recorded in the delay register, the revised date is the one to work against, and the original stays visible so the difference is clear.

Printing it

The chart prints on your letterhead for a progress meeting or a report. It is deliberately plain, because a commercial programme that looks like a planning output invites arguments it was never meant to settle.
